Hi Everyone!

I thought I'd stop in and wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday Season! And to thank each and every one of you who have supported Candied this year. The emails that still roll in are hugely supportive and I very much appreciate them and I am humbled by them:-)

Many of you are eager for me to answer questions about Candied and what its future will be. First off, I am thankful I stepped away when I did. I really needed the break away.. to collect myself, to re-evaluate what I NEEDED and what I can afford to step away from.

Last weekend I dropped by the Farmer's Market (here in Quesnel) and I ran into a friend/business associate. After I visited a bit and stepped away, I realized I missed what I had. I have worked SO SO SO hard to get Candied going. Countless hours formulating recipes, designing, researching ingredients (I am a firm believer in NATURAL), writing and editing product descriptions, taking product photos and SO much more!

I think I got carried away with others (and I don't necessarily mean customers) interpretation of Candied not my own. Plus, I really need to work on time management! So when I re-open in the Spring, your going to see many changes to the line up. A BIG one is... I will no longer be doing custom orders and I will not be doing "made to order". I will be keeping a small inventory that will be primarily focused on handmade hot pressed and cold pressed soaps, with a mixture of lip balms, perfumes, maybe a few novelty soaps (such as donuts, cupcakes, etc), seasonal items, body cream, whipped soap and a few bubble bar scoops. Scents will be dependent on season and will not be available year-round as they have been in the past. Plus, I am limiting store hours to week days (excluding holidays or special occasions). And will have set times for creating and shipping. I guess the last paragraph is more for me, as a reminder, than you... hahahaha. My kids are the most important part of my life and I feel comfortable enough now to shut up shop for a day or 2 to tend to them and to my sanity or to get caught up on orders without life becoming a HUGE uncomfortable stress ball. Plus, I've taken up knitting, photography and playing with horses again! Life is full but great!

I am excited about this Fave Friday cause I get to gab about knitting/crocheting... woohoo! If your a knitter/crocheter, I suggest visiting Ravelry.com! It's amazing site dedicated to the art. I have found sooo many patterns (for free and for sale) that I just have to make. This year I have decided to attend the Farmer's Market (a local art/craft events in my home town) with creations I have made over this past couple of months. Here is a scarf I crocheted for my daughter who just started Kindergarten-

This is actually an original design... no pattern, just an idea;-) I really wanted to make her a pencil! And I thought I was on to something pretty special, but after a quick search I found a tonne of others making 'em too. Oh well... Paige loved it and that's what counted;-) You'll be able to find other creations I've made at Milk & Honey Knits later this Fall!

The Vanilla Monster!

If you've been with Candied for awhile or have read the website disclaimer, you'd know that a good percentage of our goods turn tan or brown over time... Its completely natural and absolutely still safe to use. Vanilla is the culprit. Its a soap makers NEMESIS. (And believe me EVERY soaper on the planet has the same problem). The discoloration is highly unavoidable, since vanilla is a base in many beloved, sugary, sweat, bakery, fruity and confectionary scents. Vanilla reacts with the air, causing a natural reaction. So you may see your soaps, bombs, bubble scoops, etc., go from a beautiful, say, yellow color to a not so pretty tan/brown, you will know that its just the nature of the monster. Its incredibly annoying and frustrating but there isn't much that can be done. So please don't freak when you see it or think that it has gone bad, because it hasn't. Every product we offer is made to order.. they are always fresh and yummy- we guarantee it;-)

Feeling Blessed

This morning I awoke early to my two year old playing patty-cake with my husbands Iphone and my 5 year old daughter singing away. I feel blessed to have this... this family, my children, a warm home, friends I can count on and an enjoyable, successful business. Growing up I didn't have this warmth, this kind of safety, so I savior every moment. As pancakes were frying and the kids and I were singing a pancake song loud and proud (lol), I realized just how much I truly enjoy making things for others. It brings me great joy to see a smile on someone's face because of the kindness I've shared. What I want to say is (and I think its important for you to hear), the products you buy from Candied are made with genuine love and care. I pay close and special attention to the details. It's not just another order or another customer.... It's time I spend chatting with my daughter, time I spend creating things I enjoy and that others will enjoy. I think being able to be creative brings on a great sense of purpose, pride and feeds the soul. If you don't have a hobby or some other form of enjoying what you do, I wholeheartedly suggest one or some. Soap making is awesome, but I also really enjoy crocheting too. It can be soooo soothing! French Macaroon Love;-)

I got hooked on French Macaroons when I had picked up a copy of BoHo magazine last fall. I cant remember what month is was, but it was all about France! (BoHO is awesome BTW).

Macaroons are just so pretty, you kinda dont want to eat 'em cause than you cant admire them anymore. So I thought, why not make them into soap.. I can admire that for longer & I dont gain an ounce from using them! Out popped my creative tools and I went to work. 3 layers go into each French Macaroon, which make them more labor intensive than some other soaps I make but the effect is worth the result. I have 4 varieties right now (Boston Tea Party, Frozen Margarita, Bubblegum and Rootbeer) with 2 more on the way. I LOVE them; I hope you do to!

My Big Revelation...

Awww bummer! The jeans won't fit....I hate that revelation! I guess working late and snacking is not a friendly approach to weight loss- ha. But at least this time its 10 pounds and not 30.

This 10 pounds is a wake-up call. It means that I haven't been taking care of myself like I do for others. And damn it, I am fitting back into those jeans. They are my favorite and they cost me a fortune (90$ Guess jeans). Not only that, but I'll feel better with more energy again. And I need all the energy I can muster (2 kids and a busy business).
Any other girls in the same spot?

Hello all my Candied darlings :o) If you would like a glimpse of heaven, it comes in a jar! Get on it and pick up some Whipped Wash! There is a scent for everyone so no excuses girls! This stuff is so good, I sometimes get dirty on purpose just to luxuriate in the shower with my Whipped Wash, lol, yes, it is that good!!!! This product foams like mad, feels like whipped cream on the skin and leaves it soft and hydrated. So hydrating that sometimes I don't even need additional moisturiser! The added bonus, it leaves just the right amount of fragrance on the skin. Hence all you foodie scent addicts like me, you're gonna wanna gobble up your arm if you smell it too much like myself :o) but please don't, lol! On a diet? Forget eating your sweets! Smelling them is enough to satisfy my cravings, almost should be called Whipped Diet Wash, LOL!!! Now I know this sounds crazy, however years ago scientists concluded that when a craving comes on simply smelling whatever sweets it is you're craving will satisfy your sweet tooth. Companies have even come out with food scented sniffers as a dieting strategy, which sadly was a fad but it works for me so give it a go and see if it has the same effect on you! I'm not claiming that you'll lose weight using our products, however, keep the calories at bay and give it try, either way you'll fall hard for Whipped Wash! For you non foodie scent addicts, the boys will come sniffing like bees to flowers, and who wouldn't love that?! Scent is one of the most powerful senses, it can calm, invigorate, bring back memories, and so much more. Since about 99 percent of our scents are original, all you girls lucky enough to have found Candied will not find our scents anywhere else, people will inquire what you use and you may or may not want to share your fabulous secret, *evil grin* haha! Bonjour my Candied darlings! With summer coming upon us, soon in full swing, if you feel our Fluffy Body Butters are a tad too moisturising, well jump on the Body Smoothie train! We at Candied have outdone ourselves with Kim at the helm to bring you one of the best lotions out on the market right now. Delightfully light, and nourishing with ingredients such as extra virgin Rosehip oil, which when the more virgin the oil, the more potent and higher the quality. Shea butter which is a superb luxury ingredient, as in Africa the tree from which this miraculous butter comes from translates as the tree of life. This butter is so revered that when babies are born in Africa, the newborns are lovingly massaged with it. Bet a lot of you didn't know that Shea provides a minimal amount of SPF, which is not to say don't use sunscreen, but there is a bit of added protection from UV rays. There is also the butter we all know and love, Cocoa Butter, traditionally used to ward off stretch marks, it is loaded with vital nutrients such as vitamins and minerals vitamin E being the star. Our Body Smoothies are also loaded with Aloe Vera, once considered a miracle plant for hundreds of years, and to this day still is in my opinion. Talk About Innovative Luxury!

Hello all my beauties :o) Just the other night, I had the pleasure of using for the first time one of our Bomb Cupcakes in Strawberry. I was literally blown away! On the product description it states minimal bubbles from the icing. My dear Kim in my opinion was a bit modest about the amount of bubbles :o) Now, you won't get the explosive bubbles you'll get with one of our products in our All That Bubbles array of products, but if blessed with good water pressure like mine, I got more bubbles out of it than a traditional bubble bath from different companies I've tried in the past. What I did was dissolve the frosting part of the bomb with the faucet at full blast. Then sublime joy set in when I saw the abundant amount of bubbles I was getting and to get my cake and eat it too, after just about ready to turn off the water I dropped in the bomb portion and OH, SWEET HEAVEN!!!! My lovelies, you need to get on this! The bath was so sublime, I must have been in there for an hour and emerged a very happy SOFT raisin, lol! If you try this product and don't like it or don't try it all, you're bonkers! Hence my darlings, by all means....GO! Try one today or you will be missing out on one heck of an experience! Fluffy Body Butter, Perfection at Long Last!

Hello my lovilies! Hope everyone has been well. Let's get down to the nitty gritty and talk about body butter, Fluffy Body Butter to be exact! How many of you love body butters but hate that you have to dance around for 10 to 20 minutes to let it sink in and can't even think of trying to get those sexy, new designer slim jeans on while your skin is all sticky and greasy? Well, owner Kim Exshaw has solved that problem with her new formulation for Fluffy Body Butter and ladies she has NAILED it!!!!! I was honestly shocked at how quickly it sunk into my skin and the soft silky, and almost powdery feeling it left behind, plus my skin was so happy. Soothed as a matter of fact, and smooth as a baby's butt, hehe! This perfect formula is loaded with skin loving aloe vera, shea and cocoa butters, jojoba oil, and sweet almond oil known around the industry to help tone the skin. It just doesn't get any better than this, plus it's a great value because a little goes a long way. I had the pleasure to try I Love Latte and boy does Kim have a great nose! Hello everyone:o)

As I am the latest addition to Candied Bath Bakery and Beauty Bar, I'd love to introduce myself! I have been involved in the beauty industry for almost a decade now, having obtained my estheticians license almost 10 years ago. After graduation I worked for Nelly De Vuyst as a tradeshow representative. I had lots of fun traveling with them as they were a great bunch, and I loved what I did. During that time I also worked at a spa as head esthetician. I have been obsessed with everything bath & beauty as far back as I can remember. Toying with my mothers cosmetics much to her dismay since I was a little girl, hehe. Also my choice of bath products has matured quite a bit from using Mr. Bubble, the legendary pink kids bubble bath, that often made me break out in hives. I wish there were companies like Candied back then (my soon to be 4 y/o is spoiled at bath time!), 29 years later and I am now lucky enough to enjoy, creative, delectable, and soothing bath treats that are gentle on the skin and the environment. I've probably tried just about every big name facial, bath, & beauty product out there only to sadly find out that these companies who shall remain nameless were using horrible, cheap ingredients, and spending most of their money on famous models, ultra-fancy packaging, and big, glossy, advertisments. Yes, I'm talking big-wig department store brands. Sadly at the makeup counter of any given big name department store, there are VERY few companies that are dedicated to taking care of the environment and your skin. That's when it dawned on me to seek out companies that were more environmentally responsible. Not only that but companies that used their profits to buy better ingredients, not better looking packaging. So I've been involved, well, o.k, obsessed :o), with the underground, not as well known, "mom and pop" companies that care about every little ingredient that goes into their carefully crafted formulations, because those of us that care know, what you put on your skin, winds up in your body! Think nicoderm patches my little pretties :o) Is vanity worth your health? Well, it doesn't have to be! Thanks to companies like Candied that I am proud to now be a part of, I can read the ingredient lables without cringing and toss one of my heavenly bath treats in the tub without a second thought knowing that my choice of product is both environmentally and health friendly. Heck, my soon to be 4 year old daughter even knows the difference between the good stuff that I use on her compared to when my husband bathes her and to my dismay uses big name drugstore brands that promise to calm and soften, but do nothing for her poor, dry, skin but exasperate the problem. When my heads not stuck up in the bath & beauty clouds, I'm actally quite a tomboy enjoying snowboarding, hiking, fishing, going to the driving range, and horseback riding. I also love motorcycles :o) I love feeling connected to nature but off the trails and away from the range, I am as girly as a girl can get :o) I am a big fan of music as I believe it's a soundtrack to life. I've been lucky enough to live in various places across the U.S from being born and growing up in New York City, having gone to High School in Hawaii, and then after a year of working and going to school full time, I left school to travel and live in different places. I've been blessed enough to live in Vermont, Tennessee, New Jersey, Arizona, the Hudson Valley in NY, and currently back in the NYC metro area. I have a great husband and hysterical, sassy little girl Isabella, and I can't forget my two dogs Wylie, a Shiba Inu and Monty, a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. So along with skincare, bath & body, my famliy is my joy. I hope you all learned a little bit about me and hope to get to know all of you better :o)

My New Obsession!

For the last couple of days I have been frantically coming up with new scents for the body smoothies and body butters... and OMG let me tell you- the I Love Latte is to die for! Really it is that good. YUM! I seriously wish there were smell-o-vision. Tonight I am taking MR.I Love Latte in the newly formulated Body Butter, lathering it all over my showered body and jumping into bed. If you like stepping into Starbuck's when they are just brewing fresh coffee, than you will L.O.V.E I love latte. And the body butter texture is simply scrumptious. Heavely really. Smooooooth, creamy, soft and oh-so buttery! Oh baby, its sure to be a staple. And the Body Smoothies (lotion)- YUM; light, airy, creamy and delightful. The smoothies will be my go-to this summer!

The soap studio is rocking!!! I am a Mom first which is why I feel a little guilty. Don't you (Moms) ever feel that way... like there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done? I even went out and hired a housekeeper- something that is totally out of character for me. It was just to help out, so I had more REAL time with the kids, but that turned out to be an event! OMG. I'd love 2 get in 2 it, but na.

Oh, before I forget.... I have updated the body butter formula.. it is way way good now! Yummy. Now, I can't wait until bath time.. a little whipped wash, a little body butter and a little bed... awww.

5 Interesting Ways to use a Bath Bomb!

I love finding new ways to use an old fave, so here are some interesting ways to use Candied Bath Bombs! While I was funding Candied into fruitation, I took on some part time jobs. One of those jobs was working for a car detail shop. He had the most interesting way of using bath bombs. So here goes the first...

1. Place Candied bombs underneath your car seat. It really does make the whole vehicle smell awww-mazing!

2. Place them next to your bed at night for an all-night-scent love affair. Monkey's Lunch Bath Bomb, I am told, is "awesome".

3. Keep your undie draw smelling 'purdy' by tossing in a couple. (Twilight is perfect for the undies.) Just a tip, but this also makes a good storage place while your bombs wait to be used as it lacks moisture.

4. Save a couple for that couple's retreat. There is nothing like a comforting, warm, fragrant bath when you have rented a room. Awww!

5. Double the bomb as a foot scrub. While in the bath and before the bomb has fizzed away, gently rub on rough heels.

Mineral Makeup Update!

I can not wait until the Mineral Makeup (eyeshadow and foundation) is posted. I am so excited! I will offer both pressed and loose; its your preference. I will first post the shadow and then the mineral foundation and veil at a later date. I truly believe you will love it as much as I do.

I absolutely LOVE the holidays, especially now that I have babies... it is so so so cool watching my oldest (baby is too young yet) open gifts on Christmas morning with so much gusto and excitement that it makes my heart melt. I would include how to use the products, their benefits to the skin and product demos! Plus, I really want to review makeup (cause- not only am I a bath junkie, but I LOVE makeup too)!

I've been working over time redesigning the look of Candied's bath bombs and bubble bars! I desperately wanted them to look more like a treat than a bath product and I think I have accomplished it. They look adorable and have the approval of my very picky husband... so, look for them soon. Tomorrow I will be taking pictures and editing... (that's if the kids sleep for a bit). Hopefully by next Friday I'll have them posted and up for sale on Etsy!

I'll also be introducing Candied's new product line- Butter Bomb Cupcakes and 2 new scents- My Sweet Linkin (almond and milk) and Skip and Go Naked (a citrus-fruity fragrance).
